Become a foster home
Fostering dogs is one of the most meaningful ways you can help a shelter dog. It means opening your home to it and welcoming it into your family while we find it a permanent home.

Foster care
A foster home provides the opportunity to raise and care for a dog without committing to it for the rest of its life. This way, you give it time and a chance to adapt to a home environment, get used to other people or animals, and thus significantly increase its chance of being adopted. Of course, there are benefits for the foster parent too.
Pet Trial
If you're considering adopting a dog but aren't sure if or how you'll manage, foster care can be your "trial period." It will allow you to assess how well the dog fits into your lifestyle before you make a long-term commitment.
A New Companion and Shared Experience
A foster dog will bring variety to your daily life. Through caring for and interacting with them, you will learn and understand more about dogs' character and behavior, their peculiarities, and needs. By becoming part of the foster parent community, you will also have our continuous support.
More exercise
Dogs, even older ones, need several walks every day. This keeps them in shape, satisfies their natural needs to sniff, dig, and run, which improves their health and makes them calmer. And let's be honest, when would you walk that much if you didn't have a dog?
Personal fulfillment
Taking an abandoned dog into your home means giving them a much better life and a chance for adoption that they wouldn't have in overcrowded shelters. This brings a great sense of fulfillment and purpose.

These are usually dogs that urgently need to be removed from the shelter due to the risk of incidents with other dogs, an inability to adapt to the new environment, or a need for treatment that cannot be provided in a shelter with 1500 other animals.
Carefully consider such a commitment
Your foster dog will have expenses for food and parasite prevention – if you can cover all or part of these, that would be great. If you can't, we will cover this part with the help of virtual adopters. You might need to take the dog for a check-up or medical procedure – we will cover the costs for this, but the logistics are the foster parent's responsibility. If you don't have a car, first check if you have friends who can help in such a situation.
We will choose your foster dog together
We will help you make the best decision for both yourself and the dog you wish to foster. We do this because we know the character and specific needs of the dogs in the shelter well, and how they would fit into your lifestyle and daily routine. Here we must remind you that foster care is a serious commitment, and the dog cannot be returned to the shelter after one or two weeks.
Become a foster parent
If you want to join our family of foster parents, fill out this form and send it to us. We will contact you as soon as possible. If you can't foster a dog right now but still want to help, you can become a virtual adopter. Choose your dog and donate for it at your discretion , by leaving your name and the dog's name in the 'Reason' field for the donation.
Meet the rascals
There are over 1800 dogs in Sofia's municipal shelters. We are convinced that among them is exactly the dog you've always dreamed of. Here you can meet some of them: wonderful dogs of different ages, with different personalities and needs. They all face one common challenge – to transform from an unwanted 'rascal' into a beloved pet.
Foster a dog,
give it a chance!
Foster care is a selfless act of kindness that helps an abandoned dog find the love, comfort, and care it needs on its journey to its forever family.
