Share your Sunday with a dog from the shelter in Gorni Bogrov
Since 2016, we have been in Bogrov every single Sunday, organizing walks for the dogs from the shared kennels. To make these walks a positive and enjoyable experience for both the dogs and the volunteers, we have put together some useful information on how to prepare and the rules everyone should follow.

When and where?
Every Sunday from 10:00 AM to 14:00
Gorni Bogrov Municipal Shelter
Traveling along Botevgradsko Shose and reaching the Jumbo store, you need to take the exit for Burgas or towards the Sub-Balkan Road. Continuing only on this road, you will reach a Lukoil gas station on your right. After that, you'll see warehouses, trees, a restaurant (Skara-bira), and immediately after them, turn right onto a dirt road. The shelter is at its end.
How to get there?
Public Transport
Near the shelter, there is a stop for intercity bus line No. 90 (Malashevtsi – Buhovo). You should get off at the "Hanсheto" stop (immediately after Lukoil) and walk back a short distance. The shelter is a 5-10 minute walk from the stop.
Shared Travel
We practice shared travel so if you are looking for or offer transportation write to the event that we upload every week on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/1500doggang. Be as specific as possible - how many seats you are looking for/ or offering, where you are passing by or where it is convenient for you to be picked up, etc.
What you'll need and what you can bring?
Clothes you don't mind getting dirty/ change of clothes
Second pair of shoes to change after the visit
Sunscreen and tick repellent - especially during the summer months
Bring water, as there is no convenient place nearby to buy
If you wish, you can bring treats for the dogs, their favorites are sausages
Rules of the walks
It's important to be responsible and follow the established rules to be as helpful as possible. Whether young or adult, let's not forget that the safety of both people and dogs is crucial. We have prepared a set of rules and we kindly ask you to read them carefully.
Dogs are taken out in a specific order (kennel by kennel), with senior volunteers responsible for taking dogs out from kennels. Along with the dog, you will be given a card with the number of its kennel. Entering kennels and taking dogs out by your own is prohibited.
Dog walks take place in the green meadow/area and enclosures specifically designed for this purpose. Once you been given a dog, calmly take the shortest path to the big meadow. Do not unnecessarily walk between the kennels and alleys, as this agitates the other dogs.
During the walks, it is very important to keep distance of at least 2m from dogs that are not from the same kennel, for their and your own safety.
If several dogs are taken out from one kennel, they can be released together into the enclosed areas to run and play. The presence of people in the enclosure while dogs are inside is mandatory.
During the walk, you can give treats to the dog you are walking, keeping a distance from others to prevent fights (even if they are from the same kennel). Please do not reach into the kennels or throw food to the dogs while they are inside, as this can lead to incidents.
Sometimes we take out dogs from kennels that are fearful and don't walk on a leash. These dogs need to get used to our presence. We stay with them (in front of the kennel or in grassy areas), pet them and reward them with treats. This is important as it will help them relax during future walks.
A volunteer in a yellow vest will inform you when it's time to return all the dogs from your kennel back. The card should be returned to the senior volunteer to avoid confusion with the next one you receive. Entering kennels and taking dogs out by yourself is prohibited.
When walks are finished, please do not walk between the kennels and alleys, as the dogs get overexcited, which can lead to fights among them.
